3D Modeling
Every larger design - entire front yard, entire backyard, whole property - is designed in 3D. Modeling is the best way to convey the design intent to clients, contractors and municipalities. It also reveals elevation issues that might not otherwise be apparent. I had learned to hand draw everything when I began my career. But with so many excellent software products available today, moving to 3D modeling was a no-brainer.
Badger Canyon Modern
New construction. Modern home with rectilinear hardscaping. Lots of basalt boulders and native plants. Very water wise.
North Richland Mid-century Modern
Remodel. "Arboretum" and lawn in the process of conversion to a beneficial mix of existing non-natives and natives.
South Ridge Terraces
Remodel. Unusable slope turned into a terraced garden for active and passive use.
Westcliffe Mediterranean
Remodel. Reduced lawn to create a series of patios with an outdoor grilling station, gas fire pit, bubbling rock and low-voltage lighting.
Westcliffe Family Space
Remodel. Removed some poorly-conceived patios and lawn created a nice, bright family space.
Girl Space
Remodel. Replaced lawn and cracked concrete patio with new, modern patio spaces and water-wise plants.
Lawn Replacement Experiment
Remodel. Replacing lawn without the use of a sod cutter or chemicals. Lots of native bunch grasses, a waterfall and gravel patio.
Sunken Fire Pit - Driveway Edition
Remodel. Large space in the middle of a circular driveway turned into a sunken fire pit patio in the middle of a "forest". Sure why not.
