Xeriscaping with Evergreens
Location: Richland, WA
Water is a precious resource in the desert, and this couple knows it. They were not getting any enjoyment out of their lawnscape, so we removed the sod and filled the yard with a variety of evergreen and deciduous plants that thrive in our region. The evergreen trees were particularly important. The yard is small, so we chose dwarf species of the trees they love in order to keep everything in proper scale.
A gravel pathway winds around to the back yard where a small pondless waterfall is nestled against the low block retaining wall. The calming sounds of the waterfall fill the back patio. The grandchildren can walk right up to the falls because the pathway is integrated into the top of the basin.
The side yard next to the garage was elevated with the addition of another decorative block retaining wall to provide a level surface to walk on. Now, the entire yard is one level, walkable and enjoyable!
